Understaffing, dilapidated buildings, overcrowding: the ills of French prisons are numerous. Prison conditions have been criticized in recent years by the European Court of Human Rights, and are only getting worse, as figures published this summer show a new record: 85,000 people detained in France for 60,000 places. Valérie Mousseeff, director of the largest prison in Guadeloupe, and author of "La prison comme horizon" (Mareuil éditions), was the guest on Au Cœur de l'Info.
