Since November 13 and the state of emergency, the inexorable retreat of individual freedoms

The state of emergency was introduced in France in the wake of the November 13, 2015 attacks, strengthening the powers of civil authorities to combat terrorism but also restricting individual freedoms. While the state of emergency came to an end in autumn 2017, certain measures have since become common law, and other laws have expanded the means by which citizens can be monitored, much to the dismay of fundamental rights defenders.
